Our Safety Manual

Diamond Roofing Systems’ safety manual serves as the foundation of our commitment to job site safety. Every new employee undergoes an in-depth orientation process and reviews the manual in detail. Our manual outlines the minimum safety requirements required on all job sites and provides clear procedures for handling a variety of workplace conditions.

As part of our onboarding process, new hires receive training on our Safety Manual, Safety Data Sheets, and roofing safety best practices through materials published by the National Roofing Contractors Association. Before beginning work on any project, all employees must complete this orientation, ensuring they understand and adhere to our safety standards.

Topics Covered in Our Safety Manual

  • Drug and Alcohol Policy and Procedures
  • Hazard Communication Policy/GHS
  • Fall Protection Policy
  • Manual Lifting Policy
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • General Operating Policies and Procedures
  • Electrical Safety and GFCI Compliance
  • Propane Cylinder Handling
  • First Aid Procedures
  • Hoist and Ladder Safety
  • Accident, Incident, and Near-Miss Reporting
  • Disciplinary Measures for Safety Violations
  • Respirator Protection Program
  • Fleet Safety Management

Ongoing Safety Training & Compliance

Safety doesn’t stop after orientation. We implement continuous training and hazard awareness programs to ensure our crews remain up to date with best practices. Our safety initiatives include:

  • Weekly “Toolbox Talk” Sessions – Covering general safety concerns and site-specific topics.
  • OSHA-Certified Training – All employees complete a 10-hour OSHA course, while foreman and supervisors must complete a 30-hour OSHA course.
  • Monthly Safety Trainings – Held in conjunction with the National Safety Council and customer safety committees.
  • Daily Hazard Assessments – Conducted to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Annual Safety Equipment Inspections – Ensuring all PPE and safety gear remain in top condition.
  • Random & Post-Incident Drug Testing – Maintaining a drug-free workplace.
  • Safety Incentive Programs – Recognizing employees who demonstrate outstanding safety practices.

On-Site OSHA Safety Plans

Each project has a job-specific safety plan to address unique risks, materials, and equipment. Project managers and foremen maintain daily safety logs and guarantee OSHA compliance.

  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS): All material safety data is readily accessible on-site or electronically.
  • Pre-Job Site Inspections: Conducted before crews arrive to address potential hazards.
  • On-Site Safety Oversight: Regular visits from safety directors to enforce protocols.
  • OSHA Compliance Inspections: Job sites must meet all safety standards and pass inspections.

Subcontractors

Occasionally, subcontractors are engaged to perform limited specialty work on a roofing project. Our subcontractors are required to review all aspects of the Diamond Roofing Systems Safety Program with any employee assigned to that project. Our subcontractors are responsible for complying with all OSHA standards as well as the Diamond Roofing Systems standards.

Safety Statement

At Diamond Roofing Systems, safety is more than a process or a second thought – it’s what our company is based on and is part of our daily culture. To enhance this culture and focus, Diamond Roofing Systems utilizes a third-party safety consultant to keep us current with all federal and state requirements.

Our employees are our most valued resource. From the moment they are hired, safety training starts and continues throughout their career with us. We continuously stress that safety is the most important ingredient in a project, along with the quality of the product and workmanship.

Training begins with orientation, during which fall protection and personal protective equipment are covered. As a condition of employment, all employees are required to complete a 10-hour OSHA training class. With this class, each chapter covered must be passed before a new hire can move to the next chapter. After having completed all chapters, a final exam is given to test the employee’s knowledge of each topic covered.

Safety training never ends at Diamond Roofing Systems. During the year, a third-party safety consultant provides job site inspections and training. Workers also receive weekly Toolbox Talks while on-site, all of which are documented.

All Diamond Roofing Systems employees are encouraged to take an active role in promoting safety and can be rewarded for their suggestions. At any time, any employee may call an owner or our safety consultant if immediate action needs to be taken.
